36th Congress of the European College of Gerodontology

36th Congress of the European College of Gerodontology

Held in Cologne on May 8–9, the 36th Congress of the European College of Gerodontology (ECG) brought together leading experts, researchers, and clinicians to advance interdisciplinary approaches in gerodontology and healthy ageing across Europe.

The event highlighted the strong collaboration between the European Geriatric Medicine Society (EuGMS), the ECG, and the PROGRAMMING COST Action 21122. This joint effort was a remarkable success, fostering outstanding interdisciplinary exchange and reinforcing the growing importance of oral health within European geriatric medicine.

The congress clearly demonstrated what can be achieved when gerodontology and Geriatric Medicine unite under a shared vision for integrated care and better outcomes for older adults. A key highlight was the focus on the educational needs of healthcare professionals in both fields—an essential step toward the future of person-centred care.

We extend a special acknowledgment to the outstanding colleagues whose leadership and scientific contributions shaped this programme: Anastassia Kossioni, Aleksandra Popovac, M. Cristina Polidori, Roman Romero-Ortuño, and Greta Barbe. Their work continues to build bridges between disciplines, institutions, and European initiatives dedicated to ageing research, education, and clinical excellence.
